Aiki,
the first half of the word Aikido and first syllable of Aiki Jutsu
consist of the two Chinese characters ai, meaning “to come
together, to blend , to join, to harmonize,” and ki, a word
with manifold meanings that include ( as in this case ) “spirit”
and “disposition”. Aiki has always been a central
theme of Asian philosophy, but Morihei declared:”My interpretation
of aiki in the following ways.
•
Aiki is the universal principle that brings all things
together; it is the optimal process of unification and harmonization
that operates in all realms, from the vastness of space to the
tiniest atoms.
• Aiki reflects the grand design of the cosmos; it is the
life force, an irresistible power that binds the material and
spiritual aspects of creation. Aiki is the flow of nature.
• Aiki signifies the union of body and spirit and is a manifestation
of that truth. Further, aiki enables us to harmonize heaven, earth,
and mankind as one.
• Aiki means, “to live together in harmony,”
in a state of mutual accord. Aiki is the ultimate social virtue.
It is the power of reconciliation, the power of love.
In
addition, Morihei’s vision of aiki correponds closely to
the notions of integritas (wholeness) and consonantia (hamony)
in Western phiosophy. Integration between body and spirit, self
and other, humankind and nature, truth and beauty is a condition
that all people should strive for, and integrity is a moral state
as well: those who are whole can act in the best and fairest manner
in life. This is a brief paragraph from the book The Secrets Of
Aikido by John Stevens. Last but least Club Aiki believes in and
tries to live up to all the above principles in its teaching of
Aiki.
The
student whom interested in the studies of Club Aiki will have
to be interviewed by the chief instructor, whereas all rules and
requirements will be explained, it is necessary to understand
that Club Aiki is a dojo and not a health club or gym. Therefore,
it is important for the perspective student not to have any pre-consumption
of what is and what is not. Club Aiki is not the place to learn
to fight it is about resolution of conflict and compromise. Self-defense
is important but not the primart, but discipline of mind and body,
the efensive instruction is just another advantage when properly
taught. We do have a belt system for motivation and incentive
to give the student a sense of competition within oneself, however,
it is important to understand and practice in the dojo family,
team concept of one for all and all for one and the giving of
oneself unselfishly.
Promotions
are experience every three to four months for the first two peomotions,
which is yellow belt and orange belt there is no formal testing
for these levels they are more derived from the showing of the
personel development of the individual. Such as, showing a willing
to learn the bushido way. Showing a sense of respect for other,
as well as for themselves. A commitment to the ryu or do (the
way of bushido), and showing responsibility and accountability
for their actions. Nevertheless, technically the student learns
three immobilization techniques with combinations, front kick
and back kick, formal karate punching and formal striking katas
and three shifting techniques along with proper etiquette and
protocol in the dojo.
